Body Part combines text and images to tell a story of opposites attracting: weight, size, and degrees of hirsuteness. The photographs try and capture the intimacy that happens in brief encounters, and the obsession with specific body parts: the cock, the arsehole, the inner thighs, the trail of dark hair that runs down from the bellybutton. The images appear alongside a story about regular encounters between myself and a very smooth German lover.
"This is the first time I’m sending you something. Mainly it’s because I’ve started photographing the guys I have sex with. Now, whenever someone messages me online, I suggest they let me take pictures of then, before, during and after." (from Body Part)
Body Part was the first photobook in the One-a-Month challenge I set myself in 2016. The first of every month, until the 1st of September 2017, I launched a new photobook. The project marked the return to my love of photography, a love I neglected somewhere in my early twenties when I began my military service. Writing became a safer, hidden form of expression, while photography is more interactive, simultaneously intimate and public. These were some of the themes I explored and continue to experiment with.
